We have been working in the Kansas City community for thirteen years. Our research and programs show that families have pets regardless if they can afford them. About 85% of our clients have taken in their pets from the streets to prevent them from entering the shelter or living as a stray. Our families have good intentions but lack the resources to take adequate care of their pets.
Our research shows that removing these pets from their family does not help make long term impacts on improving animal welfare and contributes to the number of animals killed at animal control and in area shelters every year. Families are better together, and we have the resources to ensure pets stay with their family.
